Health & Safety

The health and safety of our volunteers during the work parties, and any members of the public (and their animals) that might pass nearby, is important.  We therefore take appropriate steps to protect them, e.g. by having a designated person in charge of each work party (who carries a first-aid kit, a defibrillator, a mobile phone and a list of attendees) and briefing the volunteers on any special requirements for the specific work party.

Most of the requirements are common sense but we do have a booklet “Health & Safety Statements and Risk Assessments” which details the applicable procedures, the potential risks and the preventative actions that should be taken.  A link to a copy of this booklet is sent to each volunteer when they first start attending and they are asked to read it, raise any comments or questions they might have and to occasionally re-read it to refresh their memories.  This booklet can be viewed as a PDF document by clicking on the link below.

FOLK Safety & Risks Document Issue 6 (showing changes)

The specific risk assessment associated with COVID-19 was withdrawn on 19th July 2021 in line with the Government’s removal of legal constraints on activities.  However, volunteers are asked to remain cautious and to take appropriate precautions to protect their own health and that of others.
